World War 2 : Arnhem Bridge

Arnhem Bridge

The Battle of Arnhem occurred during Operation Market Garden, was a significant battle fought in September 1944 during World War II. It took place in and around the Dutch city of Arnhem as part of an ambitious Allied airborne operation to create a bridgehead across the Rhine River into Germany. The operation involved the deployment of British, American, and Polish airborne troops, tasked with capturing key bridges and holding them until relieved by advancing ground forces. The battle, however, faced fierce German resistance, and despite acts of immense courage and determination, the Allied forces suffered heavy casualties and were ultimately unable to achieve their objectives. The failure of Operation Market Garden delayed the Allied advance into Germany and prolonged the war in Europe.
