The Battle of Coral, also known as the Battle of Fire Support Base Coral, was a military engagement that took place from May 12 to June 6, 1968, during the Vietnam War. The battle occurred in the northern part of South Vietnam, near the city of Lai Khe, in Binh Duong Province. The engagement involved Australian and New Zealand forces, who were part of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), and the US 1st Infantry Division, who were operating in the area as part of Operation Toan Thang. The battle began when North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Viet Cong (VC) forces launched a series of attacks on the Australian and US positions, including Fire Support Base Coral, which was a key artillery base in the area. The defenders repelled the initial attacks, but the NVA and VC continued to launch repeated assaults on the base over the next several weeks, resulting in a prolonged and intense battle. The engagement was one of the largest and most significant battles involving Australian forces during the Vietnam War.
